Nurse.com Survey of Registered Nurses Exposes Potentially Costly Gaps in Skin Health Training
NORTHFIELD, Ill., April 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Medline today announced results of a new skin and wound care survey completed in conjunction with Nurse.com that highlights some potentially costly gaps in training and purchasing. With pressure injuries and ulcers contributing to $9.1–$11.6 billion in health care costs per year in the U.S., the survey results underscore the need for hospitals and clinics to properly train and equip nurses in this area.
The survey of 775 registered nurses across 49 states found:
- Only 44% agree they have access to education in skin and wound care best practices
- Less than a third (30%) feel somewhat comfortable following their facility’s clinical guidelines for skin care
- Nearly half of respondents (45%) do not feel very comfortable in their ability to prevent skin breakdown in their facility
